Mission

Our Lord Jesus Christ sends the church out as witnesses to and agents of his reconciling love.  Mission is our grateful response to God's mercy as we reach out to those in need in our community and reach out farther into our region, state, nation, and the world.

Jesus said, "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age."  (Matthew 28:19)

Munch Bunch - Feeding The Hungry
Munch Bunch

Purpose

Children need to be at school on Monday morning with a full stomach and ready to concentrate and study. For school staff who know the signs, it is not hard to pick out hungry children. They are the ones who empty the food on their lunch trays in a flash. It is worse when there is a weekend and children do not get enough to eat for over 48 hours.

Plan
Realizing there are Sidney Central Elementary School students that are food-insecure and may go hungry over the weekend, our new ministry supplements their weekend food needs.

After working with the school staff to identify these students, we provided a take home bag each Friday packed with non-perishable foods to supplement their weekend diet.  This started in October 2009, going through May 2010. In 2010 it expanded to include Longfellow School. In 2011 it expanded to include all four Sidney elementary schools: Whittier, Longfellow, Emerson and Northwood. While relatively new to Sidney, this program has been successfully implemented in many other communities.

Funding

Start-up grants from the Shelby County United Way and The Presbyterian Women Association allow us to start stocking our shelves for this Sidney effort. It costs about $85 to provide these foods for one student for an entire school year. Friends and members of the church provide critical on-going financial and volunteer (transportation & packaging) support of the ministry.

Your sponsorship and donations allow us to commit to providing children supplemental meals for the entire school year!

Please note that all donations go directly to purchasing food for the children.

Administrative, storage and transportation expenses are paid for by the sponsoring church.
